Planning Application Submitted for North West Saline Wind Farm
A formal planning application for a small wind farm of five turbines on a site around 2 kilometres north west of Saline and 12 kilometres north west of Dunfermline has been submitted to Fife Council by ABO Wind.
The total installed generation capacity of the proposed scheme is 10-15 Megawatts (MW) which means that if the wind farm performs as well as the UK average, it could produce electricity equivalent to the demands of 5,700 – 8,600 households. It will also help achieve the Scottish Government’s renewable energy targets and help prevent the release of several hundred thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide over its
25 year lifespan.
A well attended public exhibition of the proposals was staged in Saline in November last year and, in March this year, ABO Wind organised a visit for locals to a working wind farm near Fintry.
Jenny Walsh, project manager, ABO Wind said, “We are committed to maintaining communication with the local community on the wind farm proposals, as the applications moves through the Council’s planning process.”
If approved, local contractors for the construction, operation and maintenance of Northwest Saline Wind Farm will be encouraged. Local manufacturers will also be given priority to source auxiliary equipment such as electrical installations, fences and road construction materials. The estimated value of contracts available for tender by local-subcontractors is approximately £1 million.
Copies of the detailed environmental statement which accompanies the planning application are available for inspection at:
